Most clubs collect money every way except an easy one: standing orders that never change when the fee does, cheques in a drawer, bank transfers to reconcile by hand, and a cash box at the hut. Sail moves all of it online. Members join and renew on a subscription, everything the club sells is paid for at the point of booking, and it all settles into the club's own Stripe account.

Memberships run on a subscription, annual or monthly, and course places, event entries, day tickets, hire and race entries are all paid at the point of booking, with an instant confirmation. No cheques to bank, no transfers to reconcile, no cash box on a race day.

You don't need a Stripe account first. Sail creates your club's own one for you as part of setup and walks you through a short verification, mostly the bank account your payouts go to. Already use Stripe? Connect the account you have. From then on, takings land straight in your account, never held by us to pass on later.
Renewals and reminders run themselves, so the treasurer just watches the numbers.
Each membership renews on its own, Sail sends a single reminder before the date and lapses anyone who does not renew, so the annual renewal scramble becomes something that ticks along quietly in the background.
How the money comes in
- Membership on a subscription: each one renews on its own through Stripe, annually or monthly as the member chose, so the money arrives on time without a bank transfer to chase
- Members and non-members priced differently: courses, events and hire can carry a member price and a separate non-member price, or be closed to non-members entirely, so the membership discount applies itself wherever someone books
- Your own paid extras and add-ons: create optional extras on a membership, one-off or recurring, and add-on services on an event, such as camping or meals, and they are added to the basket and paid for in the same checkout
- The awkward cases handled: a member can change category and the new price takes effect at their next renewal rather than mid-term, and a family is billed once, through a single paying member
- A true record of every payment: each transaction is recorded from Stripe itself, refunds included, so the treasurer's figures are real money in and they reconcile, with the reports and exports that sit on top covered on the Finance & reporting page
