Cookies policy

1. The short version
We use very little. Nothing that identifies you loads until you say yes.
- This website sets no cookies at all before you accept, and no analytics runs until you do.
- Your choice is remembered in your browser's own storage, not in a cookie sent to us.
- If you decline, everything on this site still works apart from the embedded demo booker, and nothing measures anything.
This policy covers sailapp.cloud. The Sail application at app.sailapp.cloud and the club websites we host are covered in section 5.
2. What a cookie is, briefly
A small file a website stores on your device. Some are needed for a site to work at all, and others watch what you do. UK law, the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR) read alongside UK GDPR, lets us store the strictly necessary ones without asking, and requires your consent before anything else. That is why you see a banner.
3. What this website uses

We store your choice in your browser's local storage rather than in a cookie. It stays on your device and is not sent to us with each request. Clearing your browser data resets it and the banner returns.

Calendly sets its own cookies when the widget loads. We do not load it at all unless you have accepted. If you decline, the booking page explains why and offers to email us instead. Nothing is requested from Calendly, so no cookies are set and Calendly is never told you were there.

We use Google Analytics to understand how this site is used: which pages people read, how they arrive, and where they give up. It is measurement, not advertising. We do not use it to build profiles of individuals, to target advertising, or to follow you to other websites.
The script loads only if you accept. Decline and no analytics script is loaded at all, so nothing is measured and neither of the cookies above is set.
A few specifics worth stating plainly:
- Your IP address is not stored. Google Analytics uses it to work out roughly where in the world a visit came from, then discards it. This is automatic and cannot be switched off or on.
- Google's advertising features are switched off, so this data is not used to build advertising audiences.
- We keep the data for 14 months, then Google deletes it. Sailing is seasonal, and a shorter window would not let us compare one spring with the next.
Using Google Analytics means data is transferred to Google, including outside the UK. Google acts on our instructions under its data processing terms, which include the transfer safeguards UK law requires. You can also install Google's own opt-out browser add-on if you would rather not be measured by Google Analytics on any website.
4. How to change your mind
- On this website: use the Cookie settings link in the footer of any page. It shows what you chose last time and lets you change it there and then. Opening it does not change your choice; only choosing does. Withdrawing is exactly as easy as giving, which is what PECR requires.
- In your browser: every major browser lets you block or delete cookies. See aboutcookies.org for step by step guidance. Blocking all cookies may break other websites.
When you decline, the page reloads. That is deliberate: a third party script cannot be cleanly unloaded once it is running, so reloading is what makes withdrawal take effect rather than being cosmetic.
5. The Sail application and club websites

Signing in requires a session cookie. That cookie is strictly necessary: without it you cannot stay signed in and the application cannot work. Under PECR, strictly necessary cookies need no consent, which is why the application has no cookie banner and does not need one.
There is no analytics in the application. Google Analytics runs on this website only. It does not run in the console or the member portal, and it never sees club or member data. There is no advertising and no cross-site tracking anywhere in it.
Club websites (yourclub.sailapp.cloud, or a club's own domain) are published by individual clubs using Sail. They use the same strictly necessary cookies, and no analytics. If a club adds its own third party content, an embedded video, a map or a social feed, that third party may set its own cookies, and the club is responsible for saying so on its own site.
6. Other things stored on your device
Not everything stored in a browser is a cookie, and the law covers storage generally rather than cookies specifically. For completeness, this site also uses:
- Local storage for your cookie choice, as described above.
- Session cookies for signing in on the application, as described above.
We use no fingerprinting, no advertising pixels, no social media trackers, and no cross-site tracking of any kind.
7. Changes
If we start using something new, we will update this page. Where consent is required we will ask you again rather than relying on a decision you made about something else.
